Sponsored by the Roanoke Regional Entrepreneur Center, EXPAND! has been organized to promote entrepreneurial expression and growth by encouraging small businesses and innovative individuals to submit and present original business concepts that will lead to the development or expansion of growth companies in Southwest Virginia that will result in job creation.

EXPAND! provides entrepreneurs and small business owners with a venue to:

– develop confidence in presenting their ideas to business leaders

– receive feedback and constructive coaching to be successful in selling their ideas

– network with peers who could be instrumental in their success

– and to make seed money, marketing, advertising, coaching and other resources available to help entrepreneurs make their ideas a reality.

Do you have a fantastic concept for a business you want to open, or do you have a business that you want to EXPAND! This is your chance to win more than $25,000 in marketing, advertising, production, executive coaching services, social media development, and MORE, to expand your idea and business.

PROCESS FOR CONTEST:

All eligible applicants will attend one of the two ELIGIBILTY Round 1 information meetings to be held on August 30th at 8a-9a at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood, OR August 31st at 5p-6p at Holiday Inn Tanglewood, where you’ll learn how to answer the short, five question Feasiblity Round application. At these 1-hour sessions, you will be chosen by mentors who will help guide you towards submitting the highest quality application for consideration in the FEASIBILITY Round.

Four business owners will be chosen by the RRSBDC from each of the five teams for a total of 20 FEASIBILITY Round winners, and announced at LINK-UP on September 20, 2011 from 730a-830a who will appear before the Panel of Judges that include Brian Mason of Atlantic Bay Mortgage, Bill Bundy of Bundy Group, Linda Balentine of Crowning Touch Senior Moving, David Weisman of ComCast Spotlight, and Chris Head of Home Instead Senior Care, at the PBS Studios in Roanoke, Virginia, to film their presentations in front of the panel at the PBS Studios in Roanoke, VA. Finalists will appear with their team on either October 3rd or October 5th from 8a-Noon.

One business owner from each of the five teams will be chosen by the panel for the INSPIRE round. These five finalists will give a short presentation at Super Synergy to all attendees, on October 27, 2011, and one winner will be chosen by the panel to win the Grand Prize!

RULES FOR THE CONTEST:

All Applicants will be screened by a group chosen by the RRSBDC. The RRSBDC group will decide which businesses are selected to advance to Round 2 and then the Panelists will choose which 5 will advance to the INSPIRE round. Final decisions may be subjective to the Panelists and the RRSBDC, based off of how much they believe the winner will benefit from services provided. All decisions made by the panel and the RRSBDC are final.

Neither the RRSBDC, McNutt & Associates, Inc., Synergize My Business, mentors, sponsors, any member of the panel, or any company or individual involved in this contest are liable for any business decisions made by business owners in this process. Any cash and prizes awarded must be used for the business on the application by the business owner.

There are no substitutions of prizes or services available. Services may not be substituted for cash. Certain restrictions apply and may be amended by companies awarding said prizes and are subject to change without notice.

By accepting a prize, each winner releases McNutt & Associates, Inc., Synergize My Business, and the RRSBDC, its corporate licenses, and all of their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, related companies, agents, employees, officers, shareholders, suppliers and retailers and their advertising, contest and production companies and agencies from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, cost or expense, including without limitation property damage, personal injury and/or death, arising out of entering or presenting or participating in the EXPAND! contest or the acceptance, ownership or use of prizes.

McNutt & Associates, Inc., Synergize My Business, and/or the RRSBDC reserves the right to change or discontinue the contest at any time and to extend the end date without notice. The companies and organizations also assume no responsibility for any malfunction of any equipment whatsoever, including computers that manage the email or other systems for the contest, or for any effect such malfunction may have on an applicant’s ability to participate in the contest.

The services provided to the winner cannot be a replacement for any current contract in place ( ie if your business has a contract with Comcast for advertising already, this will not count towards fulfilling that agreement.)

Finalists in the contest may be featured in promotional materials from the sponsors of this event. Applicants agree to have their image and/ or company logo and brand used in promotional materials from these sponsors.

Some restrictions may apply on any advertising the winner receives, which includes but is not limited to black-out and expiration dates on insertion of orders.

All data provided must be correct to the best of the knowledge of the business owner applying. The panel and RRSBDC reserve the right to disqualify someone due to false information at any point during the process.

Must be 18 years of age or older to enter.

No immediate relatives, employees, or any others living in their household of the sponsors or panel or mentor are eligible to win the contest.

Businesses applying may not have filed for bankruptcy in the last five years, and should not have any liens or pending litigation that would hinder its ability to take advantage of the EXPAND! contest.

Person applying must own the intellectual property, concept, or existing business and is on its behalf to make all decisions for said entity to make any marketing and business decisions. Only companies where a controlling interest of all partners / investors approve the application should apply.

The business being considered must be located in Southwest Virginia and as defined by Arbitron as the Roanoke / Lynchburg (NRV) designated marketing area or is considering expanding to this area.

Multi-Level Marketing companies are not eligible for the EXPAND! contest.
